PostNL and InPost commence Parcel Locker operations at main NS railway stations and Schiphol Airport
    •    PostNL and InPost introduce automated parcel lockers in the Netherlands.
    •   Pakketautomaten, as the terminals are branded locally, and installed at railway stations and the international airport Schiphol in Amsterdam.

PostNL and InPost are introducing automated parcel lockers to the Dutch market. Pakketautomaten, as the parcel lockers are branded locally, are installed at railway stations in Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Breda, Eindhoven, Leiden, Almere and at the international airport Schiphol in Amsterdam. Automated parcel machines enable customers to collect their parcels from these locations 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. InPost is the e-commerce facilitator and the global leader in automated parcel lockers.
The global expansion of these automated machines has been fostered by both the dynamic growth of e-commerce and the increasing demand for dedicated self-service solutions from consumers and e-retailers. The Netherlands can enjoy the extraordinary effectiveness and convenience provided by this innovative solution. Parcel terminals are present in seven largest cities and installed at central locations transited by over 400,000 travellers per day.

“The rapid development of e-commerce provides a massive opportunity for both postal and logistics operators. To take full advantage of this though it is crucial to adapt to market needs and implement solutions that are effective, competitively priced and, most importantly, convenient for users. In our opinion, self-service terminals fit these criteria perfectly and we are confident that parcel lockers will be very popular in the Netherlands. Cooperation with PostNL reaffirms the effectiveness of the solutions offered by InPost and gives us crucial experience for fulfilling our plans of further expansion in foreign markets. The Dutch Post Office is amongst the largest players in Europe and a partner we really value. The contract with PostNL includes rental of terminals, which will operate under the brand Pakketautomaten”, commented Rafal Brzoska, CEO Group, the owner of InPost.

    How does it work?

In participating e-shops, the customer can select the parcel locker delivery option when placing an order. For orders supplied by vendors who do not yet have the parcel locker option, customers can re-route shipments themselves via by changing the delivery address to a parcel locker of their choice. When the parcel has been delivered to the locker, the addressee is notified by text message and receives a unique opening code. This opening code is linked to the customer’s mobile telephone number, ensuring that only the rightful owner has access to the locker. Parcels can be collected on working days after 3pm. After 24 hours, if the parcel has not yet been collected, the customer is sent a reminder by text message. After 3 days, uncollected parcels are automatically taken to a PostNL location near the parcel locker giving the addressee a further 21 days to collect their parcel. It is also possible to send parcels via the parcel lockers, pay online at and, after registering the parcel, simply place it in a designated locker.
